The Oregon Public Health Association’s Epidemiology/Biostatistics section is proud to announce open nominations for the 2019 Student and Early Professional Achievement Award!

Purpose of Award: This award recognizes individuals, students and professionals, who are early in their public health careers, who are making substantial contributions to the field, and serving as models to other early professionals. Awardees are students and new professionals in the state of Oregon who are making outstanding contributions to one or more aspects of the fields of epidemiology and biostatistics by:

  • Advancing public health knowledge through epidemiology and applied research.
  • Improving public health practice through both effective use of data and epidemiology and training of the field.
  • Enhancing the political will to support practice and advance knowledge through effective use of data, epidemiology and applied research.

Awards: Two (2) awards will be given; a (1) student award and an (1) early professional award. Recipients will receive an OPHA annual membership (new or renewal) and registration to the 2019 OPHA Conference.

Eligibility Criteria: Nominees for this award must be current students or new professionals who have graduated within the last 2 years. Additionally, nominees must have a vested interest in improving the public’s health, as evidenced through the submitted description of their work (see below). The nominee’s work may involve epidemiology and biostatistics research or practice, and it may be ongoing work or a completed project or product. If the public health work has been conducted by a team, then only one member of the team will be eligible to receive the award.

Nomination Process: Individuals may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. Nominations must be submitted to Rachel Linz ([email protected]) by 6pm Friday, September 20th, 2019.  Each nomination should include a brief description (no more than one page) of the nominee’s work, its significance, and how it has contributed to the public’s health and/or the fields of epidemiology and biostatistics. Awardees will be informed by September 20th.

OPHA would like to give a special thanks to the 2019 Conference Sponsors & Exhibitors for their generous support! For more information, see the conference home page.
