Extreme Heat: Impacts on communities, healthcare, and planning for mental health and wellness resilience infrastructure
Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM PDT
Category: Oregon Public Health Events

As part of our commitment to raising awareness on disaster resilience and intersecting health-related topics, we are thrilled to announce a series of thought-provoking presentations on disasters and health. This platform will bring together speakers from medical and health fields, climate advocates, and environmental justice organizations across the state of Oregon. The goal of these workshops is to facilitate dialogue and raise awareness of various issues related to climate and health resilience.

The inaugural workshop is taking place on Tuesday June 20th at 4pm on zoom. Join us as we gather on this second anniversary of the 2021 Heat Dome. The focus of this session will revolve around the ramifications of excessive heat on communities and healthcare systems, while focusing on mental health and wellness as an important aspect of resilience.

With the rate of heat related deaths increasing nearly 70 percent from 2008 to 2018, and Oregon experiencing a deadly heat dome amidst the COVID-19 2021, it is time to talk about how we can build equitable outcomes for communities and their health. Our guest speakers will also share their experiences and advocacy in promoting shade equity and disaster resilience hubs.
