This year’s conference will again be one of the most important ones we have ever hosted.

Public health has remained in the public eye like never been before.  The COVID-19 global pandemic and national discussion about racism and its impacts on health provides an opportunity to come together to discuss the current situation, examine what we are learning, and strategize what we can do to build back better.

Peer to peer learning and networking are important parts of the training and development of our field.  We will again host the annual conference virtually and hope to return in person in 2022.  The virtual conference platform has multiple ways to network with colleagues and meet new people.  We will share more about those details as the conference approaches. This year's conference will be informative and valuable for the public health community in Oregon.

At OPHA 2021 you'll find the latest in public health research and trends, focused learning sessions, thought-provoking speakers, and plenty of networking opportunities. Highlights include:

  • Education: More than 80 presentations on key functional areas of public health, facilitated discussion forums to learn from your peers, and an interactive poster session.
  • Networking: Connect with public health professionals and stakeholders from around the Northwest using the virtual lounge, instant video meetings, chat and other features
  • Association Awards: Join OPHA in recognizing Oregon's public health advocates and leaders.
  • Professional Opportunities, Products and Services: Connect with OPHA Sponsors and visit the Exhibit Hall.

Improving Health through the Planned Environment: A Call to Action on Health, Climate, and Equity

The planned environment has always shaped human health and behavior, from the quality of our drinking water and the air we breathe, to how we move from place to place, where our food is grown, and where we live. The ways we structure ourselves as communities and as a state not only affect our health and resilience, but also the climate, which in turn will affect all aspects of our lives for generations to come. We must implement actions now that will benefit not only well being in the near term, but also help to ensure a more healthful, equitable Oregon for all.  This session is framed by the Oregon Call to Action on Climate, Health, and Equity, which was developed by the OPHA Healthy Environments Section in 2019-2020.  Panelists will explore how policy, design, and other planning innovations have shaped — or can shape -- the communities, state, and region we call home. In addition, they will discuss work currently underway in Oregon and the Northwest to help communities plan the resources they wish to protect, assess specific vulnerabilities, and create opportunities to build health and resilience for everyone.
